We are pleased to announce a new addition to our blog where we will feature an interview with some of the most talented Flipnote creators from around the world titled the Hatena Featured Artist.

We plan to post an interview with a talented Flipnote creator from one of the 3 regions every 2 weeks, and include some information about their background and the inspiration for their work.

Be sure to check back here every other Wednesday to see some of the most amazing artists on Flipnote Hatena. Maybe we'll even feature you someday!

Today's Featured Artist is MdM (id:MdMbunny) from the Europe and Oceania region.

Please tell us a bit about yourself.

Hello World, I'm Francesco, I'm 28 and I come from a magical green hill in North Italy.

I'm a kind of graphic designer, but nowadays illustrations and animations are my ambition.

What do you do in your free time?

Flipnotes, of course! I also love to draw on paper, and I'm a sort of big-child, in fact I love to play videogames (Nintendo stuff are my favourites).

I also like to play (and listen to) music, but I'm not a musician, so I always end up making a big mess.

How did you find about Flipnote Hatena?

I first heard about Flipnote Hatena, when Flipnote Studio was not yet released in the West because I have a friend works in that field that knows about my passion for that kind of software. I loved to watch a lot of beautiful Flipnotes from Japan and when Flipnote Studio was released in Europe I immediately enjoyed taking part in the community. I think that Flipnote Studio is the first reason why I bought a Nintendo DSi: I've looked forward to it's release for many months.

How often do you use Flipnote Hatena?

Every day I have a look at Flipnote Hatena, and every day I draw at least several frames on Flipnote Studio: my doctor told me it's the recipe for happiness.

What kind of Flipnotes do you want/like to create?

Usually I try to create funny Flipnotes, but sometimes they come out a bit sad.

I love to make Musical Flipnotes, creating music with my mouth and with stuff I find around (lamp, jeans, my finger) and synchronizing the sounds with the animations. I think my Flipnotes are a mix of real and fantasy stuff that try to bring in an alternative world to the people that are watching them.

Where do you get your inspiration for creating Flipnotes?

Initially, when I begin a new Flipnote, inspiration is something I can't figure, it's just a feeling and usually it starts from a tune, an image, a joke: an idea. But after I watched and watched again my Flipnotes, I've noticed that there are a lot of elements (and feelings) that came from old memories, like places and landscapes I visited (like Tuscany and Sardinia (Italy), Kyoto and Tokyo (Japan) or Brittany and Paris (France), or like mangas I read, cartoon and movies I watched and videogames I played in the past years.

Do you want a list about who I found in my Flipnotes?

Akira Kurosawa, Hayao Miyazaki, Leo Ortolani, Jim Henson, Akira Toriyama, Takehiko Inoue, Noboru Rokuda and many others.

Any final words or greetings?

I would like to thank all my fans for the support: as I said, you're so many and so important. And thanks to the Hatena Team for the awesome work. Bye bye =:)
