Flipnote Hatena Weekly News: March 12, 2010

Hello from all of us at the Hatena offices in Kyoto. This is Aaron with another issue of our weekly news blog -- thanks for taking the time to check it out.

Earlier this week we opened the Hatena Color Star Shop for all regions, and you can now purchase color stars for your Hatena account and add them to the Flipnotes and comments that you like. In addition, Flipnote Hatena Plus subscriptions are now officially on sale for users in the Americas and Europe and Oceania regions. You can also try out a free 30 day trial of Flipnote Hatena Plus if you'd like to see what it's all about. For more information about these new services please see the URL below:

Recently, we've done a lot of seasonal themed ideas for the weekly topic, however this week we've decided upon something more general that we hope you will all enjoy (for more details please scroll down). If you have any ideas for topics that you think might be interesting for the weekly topic, please let us know in the Flipnote Hatena news Feedback box at the bottom of this page.

Also, if you have been posting Flipnotes about the weekly topic and they are not getting featured, here are a few tips for you:

  • Don't use copyrighted music, sounds or characters in your Flipnotes
  • Post something that's acceptable for a wide age range of viewers
  • Try to avoid being too dependent on spoken words or text, so your Flipnotes can be understood by viewers in different regions.

Unfortunately, many users are still posting Flipnotes to channel 8 that are completely unrelated to the weekly topic. We try our best to manage channel 8 and remove Flipnotes that shouldn't be posted there, however if you are a Flipnote Citizen you can help us manage the weekly topic channel too by unlinking Flipnotes that are not related. Likewise, you can also link Flipnotes to the weekly topic channel if you find any posted in the wrong channels, or that you think should be featured.

On a related note, we also added the ability to block specific users from posting to channels if they are posting Flipnotes that are unrelated to the theme of the channel. For more information please see the URL below:

Lastly, our 2nd Hatena Featured Artist interview will be posted here this Wednesday, so please be sure to check it out.

Thanks from all of us on the Flipnote Hatena team, and we're looking forward to seeing your Flipnotes!
