Welcome to the Hatena Featured Artist section of our blog, where we introduce Flipnote creators from around the world.

I'm 34 years old and live in Switzerland, where I work as a software architect and developer.

How do get ideas for your Flipnotes?

I get most of my inspiration by watching the scenery and people around me. I go for walks very often through the town or in nature. I collect impressions, situations and conversations around me and this is the basis for most of my inspiration. I also like the work of artists such as Paul Klee, or M.C.Escher, who are only two of many artists that I like. I also get inspired by other user's Flipnotes as well. Some of my favorite Flipnote artists are (in random order):


What do you do in your free time?

I like to create art in many styles and using different kinds of techniques. You can see some of my images on my deviantART page. Recently I created a series of t-shirts featuring my Monster character. In addition to making art, I like to compose music. Many of my Flipnotes have music loops which are composed especially for those Flipnotes. Not much of the music I compose is available online, but I have posted some samples of the different styles and pieces I created in the past.

What kind of Flipnotes do you want/like to create?

Normally, I get a crazy idea and think, "Can I do this in Flipnote Studio?". Many of my Flipnotes were created from that intention. However, I can not predict what ideas I will have in the future!

Let's talk about something unrelated to Flipnotes. As you own a Nintendo DSi, we assume that you enjoy playing games as well. Which Nintendo DSi Game have you played recently and which one is your all-time favorite?

I also enjoy all kind of RPG games like "Golden Sun" and the "Dragon Quest" series. (Known as "Dragon Warrior" in North America.) The next one I will play is "Dragon Quest 9".

As you know, Hatena is based in Kyoto, Japan. Have you ever been to Japan? If you get a chance to visit here, what is the first thing or place you like to check out?

No, I have not been to Japan yet. But I have plans to go to a language school there sometime in the future. I also hope to visit the Flipnote Hatena team in Kyoto.
