Welcome to the Hatena Featured Artist section of our blog, where we introduce Flipnote creators from around the world.

We post the Hatena Featured Artist every week on Wednesday, and hope to introduce a variety of different artists that will inspire and entertain you.

Be sure to check here every week to see some of the most amazing artists on Flipnote Hatena. Maybe we'll even feature you someday!

Today's Hatena Featured Artist is Ribdestroyer (id:ribdestroyer), from Japan.

Please tell us about yourself.

Hello everyone, my name is Ribdestroyer. I'm from the central part of Japan, and live in a city southwest of Tokyo.

What are your interests or hobbies, and how do you spend your free time?

My hobby has been making Flipnotes ever since I first tried Flipnote Studio. Lately, I have been trying to make Flipnotes that express my thoughts and feelings, which I find quite difficult at times. I am always thinking about what I want to draw next.

Introduce some of your best Flipnotes, and tell us why you like them

★ "The Playful Conqueror" - This is one of my best Flipnotes, and it was introduced in the Flipnote Hatena news blog as the Flipnote of the Week. It took me a lot of time to draw the elasticity of this creature, and I think it turned out really well.

★ "In My Mind" - As I mentioned, it is really hard for me to draw what I feel and what I think. In the background there is an apartment building, and I don't know why, but it tends to appear in my Flipnotes often. I also like drawing buildings and scenery, and the blowing of the wind.

★ "Rock, Paper, Scissors" - I like making Flipnotes that only use black and white these days. This Flipnote is the result of me experimenting with some new techniques. It looks unique, and a little scary. Animating the arm and the moving strings required a lot of effort.

★ "Alteration (Helicopter)" - This is one of my older Flipnotes. I didn't think much about the story, and just kept drawing, and extending the animation as long as I could.

What techniques or skills are you especially good at in your Flipnotes? And what are some techniques or skills that you wish to improve?

I believe my best skill is shading. I don't create shading with lines, but instead use the contrast of black and white, and dark and light. I am not very good at drawing humans, so I prefer to draw objects, or create my own creatures.

Please introduce some of your favorite Flipnote artists

I have many favorite artists who have all kinds of great skills, but Hatch (id:season02), Isoflavone (id:eikaisan) and Pekira (id:pekira9074) are especially good at both drawing and animating. They always surprise me, and I really admire them.

Is there something you would like to say to the Flipnote Hatena community?

Flipnote Studio is a great tool to express yourself easily. I am looking forward to be seeing more of your Flipnotes to entertain and inspire me. I also want to create more Flipnotes that everyone can enjoy. I would like to express my thanks to those who have been leaving comments and adding stars on my Flipnotes. You all have been a great support to me and I truly appreciate it!

Additional Flipnotes by Ribdestroyer chosen by Hatena

★ "Sabotage" - This is another example of a strange and wonderful creature made by Ribdestroyer.

★ This Flipnote was posted by Ribdestroyer in September 2010, and is one of his earlier works.

★ "Untitled" - We enjoyed the subtle use of light and shadow in this Flipnote.
