July 20, 2011: Hatena Featured Artist - Otonohaco (id:otonohaco)

Welcome to the Hatena Featured Artist section of our blog, where we introduce Flipnote creators from around the world.

We post the Hatena Featured Artist every week on Wednesday, and hope to introduce a variety of different artists that will inspire and entertain you.

Be sure to check here every week to see some of the most amazing artists on Flipnote Hatena. Maybe we'll even feature you someday!

Today's Hatena Featured Artist is Otonohaco (id:otonohaco) from Japan.

Please tell us about yourself.

Hello, my name is Otonohaco, which means "music box" in Japanese. I just celebrated my first anniversary as a Flipnote artist by posting a Flipnote everyday for a week. It was quite a difficult task, but I enjoyed it.

What are your interests or hobbies, and how do you spend your free time?

I love both reading and collecting books. I like all kinds of books, and they help to give me ideas for new Flipnotes. I also enjoy going for long drives on the weekend.

Please introduce some of your favorite Flipnotes, and tell us why you like them.

★ "Kill two birds with one stone?" - Sometimes, I like making silly Flipnotes like this one. I tried to add my own original touch to it by putting some cute bear earmuffs on the character.

★ "PANDA!" - This is another silly Flipnote. It's hard to translate it into English, but it's a very funny joke in Japanese, and I got a lot of compliments for it.

Editors note: "Pan" means "Bread" in Japanese. The two pandas in this Flipnote say "Pan Da!" when the slices of bread are on their plates, which means "It's bread" in Japanese. The word "panda" is of also the name of the animals here, so this Flipnote is basically a funny play on words.

★ "On the rescue" - This is one my earliest Flipnotes, and it's very simple. I just love this Flipnote because of the cute looks of the animals, especially the bears!

★ "Wild Skydiving" - I wanted to express the fast speed of skydiving, but it was hard because of the file size limit in Flipnote Studio. I like how the bunny gets tired in the end, and I think it's a cute Flipnote.

★ "My name is Torajirou" - This is one of my simplest works. I like pancakes, and that's why I made this.

Where do you get the ideas for your Flipnotes from?

I like watching other people's Flipnotes for fun. However, I usually get ideas for my own Flipnotes in other ways. My ideas come out of nowhere, usually while I am doodling random things. Once I start drawing, I can go on without eating or sleeping, until I burn myself out.

Do you have any favorite artists that inspire you?

Some artists on Flipnote Hatena that I respect, are Youhei (id:aoyamayouhei) and Syncoteen (id:TransMetalsGP).

Youhei (id:aoyamayouhei) posts Flipnotes almost everyday, and to me, that is something that is very difficult to do. It's amazing how many ideas he has!

★ "Well-fed country of Japan" by Youhei (id:aoyamayouhei)

I enjoy watching Syncoteen's (id:TransMetalsGP) Flipnotes while reading the title and the descriptions. They help me understand the story, and also they are part of his "work".

★ "Highspeed Captain Shadow Runner" by Syncoteen (id:TransMetalsGP)

Do you have any advice or tips on making Flipnotes that you would like to share with us?

I don't think I'm that good at making Flipnotes. I just try to make something that is my own style. I try to make Flipnotes that are simple and also a little bit comical. I recommend that you try to make Flipnotes that everyone can enjoy!

Is there something you would like to say to the Flipnote Hatena community?

I'd like to thank you all for being great supporters and friends, and I hope I can make more Flipnotes that we can enjoy together. I'm looking forward to seeing more nice Flipnotes from you all too!
