Welcome to the Hatena Featured Artist section of our blog, where we introduce Flipnote creators from around the world.
We post the Hatena Featured Artist every week on Wednesday, and hope to introduce a variety of different artists that will inspire and entertain you.
Be sure to check here every week to see some of the most amazing artists on Flipnote Hatena. Maybe we'll even feature you someday!
Today's Hatena Featured Artist is Tosmo (id:t0k0m0usr) from Japan.
Please tell us about yourself.
Hello everyone, my name is Tosmo and I started using Flipnote Hatena this April. Most of my Flipnotes are about strange characters.
What are your interests or hobbies, and how do you spend your free time?
When I have a day off I love to ride my bicycle around. I usually carry my Nintendo DSi with me, so I can gather images and ideas for my Flipnotes.
Please introduce some of your best Flipnotes, and tell us why you like them.
I like making weird and funny characters come to life in my Flipnotes.
★ "A Way of Friendship" - This is one of my earlier Flipnotes. The small dog named "Pochitaro" is my first original character. I noticed that my style of drawing has changed a little since then.
★ "Let's All Flipnote Together!" - This Flipnote was inspired by other artists I met on Flipnote Hatena and my interactions with them. This is a wonderful community where everyone can share their creations and have fun!
★ "A Walk with the Tosmo Family" - I was taking a walk around my neighborhood, and got the idea for making a Flipnote "family" that goes for a walk. You can get some idea about what Japanese cities look like by watching this.
★ "What I See at Night.." - Almost every night before I go to bed, funny creatures appear from my Nintendo DSi and make me create Flipnotes. Sometimes making Flipnotes keeps me awake until late at night!
★ "Snack?" - The two characters in this Flipnote are "Syabon-chan" (the girl in the bubble) and "Bagu" (a monster who eats anything). They are really good friends -- aren't they cute?
★ "Flap!" - Recently I have been making many Flipnotes with the Nintendo DSi Camera application. It's fun to combine my characters with camera images.
What techniques or skills are you especially good at in your Flipnotes? And what are some techniques or skills that you wish to improve?
Well, it's not a technique or skill, but I really get into my characters. I can't stop thinking about new ideas for what they do or say, and how they think and react in certain situations. They are the source of my creativity!
I'd like to improve my animation skills, and also make more dramatic stories. My Flipnotes are usually based on daily life, so they can be boring sometimes. I want to try to make some more adventurous stories in the future.
Please introduce some of your favorite Flipnote Hatena artists
★ Otonohaco (id:otonohaco) - She is a wonderful artist, and also very creative and generous. I discovered her Flipnotes when I first started using Flipnote Hatena and ever since she has been a great inspiration.
★ Procchi (id:ProTein) - His imagination and creativity just surprises me all the time.
★ Isoflavone (id:eikaisan) - She makes smooth animations with cute original characters.
Is there something you would like to say to the Flipnote Hatena community?
On Flipnote Hatena I have found so many artists that amaze me, artists who know how to write their own songs, or how to make me laugh. Finding these kinds of artists is what I love about this community. Seeing others make great Flipnotes is an inspiration to try harder myself and to become a better creator. Let's all try to make good Flipnotes together!
