Welcome to the Hatena Featured Artist section of our blog, where we introduce Flipnote creators from around the world.

We post the Hatena Featured Artist every week on Wednesday, and hope to introduce a variety of different artists that will inspire and entertain you.

Be sure to check here every week to see some of the most amazing artists on Flipnote Hatena. Maybe we'll even feature you someday!

Today's Hatena Featured Artist is Yukiko (id:Kalohe) from the Americas region.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

When I was a teenager I took an animation class and learned how to create animation using a stop motion camera and animation cels. It's harder than it looks.

I am now a US Army veteran and in my 50s. During Operation Desert Storm I drew pictures to send to my son. He wasn't old enough to read then, so I made drawings to let him to know I was thinking of him, and that I was alright.

What are your interests or hobbies, and how do you spend your free time?

I enjoy computer graphics, drawing, swimming and outdoor activities. When I have some free time I like making Flipnotes. Some people call me an "animal whisperer", because I am good at understanding animals.

Please introduce some of your best Flipnotes, and tell us why you like them.

★ "Books" - It was fun to draw these books and open my imagination. This took around one day to draw.

★ "Bike Race" - The idea that a tricycle could go faster then a bicycle was a fun idea. This also took about a day to make.

★ "Little Fish Kicks" - We know that fish can’t kick, so the idea that this fish would kick his fins was interesting. I also made some sequels to this.

What techniques or skills are you especially good at in your Flipnotes?

When I get an idea I just start drawing, and it is like I can see the picture before I draw it. Then the story starts to take shape.

What are some techniques or skills that you wish to improve, try, or learn to do in order make your Flipnotes better?

I wish I was better at drawing hands and feet.

Please introduce some of your favorite artists on Flipnote Hatena and tell us why you like them or their Flipnotes.

There are many good artists in the Flipnote community, so it is hard to pick favorites. Here are some that I enjoy:

GazzyNinja (id:thegass)

ゆき (id:BlackNinja)

Is there something you would like to say to the Flipnote Hatena community?

I would like to say that there is no such thing as a bad artist. Anyone who loves to draw, paint or animate can do so as long as they try from the heart. We are always learning and always growing -- just remember to have fun!
