Flipnote Hatena - Celebrating the end of the summer

Hello again from all of us at Hatena!

For many people in the world, the summer holidays are coming to an end, and some of you might feel disappointed about having to go back to school or to work. However, despite the sad feelings that some of you might have, we hope that you can all enjoy meeting your friends and co-workers again after being away on holiday, and wish you all the best.

Today we completed our summer internship program at Hatena, where a group of talented engineering and design students from all across Japan, as well as from Stanford University in the United States, spent several weeks working in our Kyoto office. We’re sad to see the interns leave, and had a great time working with all of them. We had three interns working on Flipnote Hatena who have made some cool new features that we hope to release sometime in the near future.

In this week’s Flipnote Hatena blog we’re going to introduce some of the best submissions from last weeks topic, “Flipnotes about the Sea”, as well show some of our favorite Flipnotes by creators from around the world,.

This week’s theme: “Memories of the Summer”

As the summer comes to a close and September begins, we decided that a good topic for this week would be “Memories of the Summer”.

Did you take a vacation, spend any special time with your friends or family, or do any other interesting things this summer? Try to express those feelings in a Flipnote and post your Flipnotes about this topic by entering the command via "Command Search" from Flipnote Hatena on your Nintendo DSi. We'll introduce some of the best Flipnotes from around the world based on this week's theme in next week's official Flipnote Hatena blog.

We’ll feature some of the best submissions in next week's Flipnote Hatena news blog.

Best submissions of last week: “Flipnotes about the Sea”

★Here’s a simple, artistic animation of undulating sea waves by Kakkun (id:kakkun51). We really liked Kakkun’s attention to detail, and the simplicity of his theme.

★ We also enjoyed ↑↑←→←→↑↑BA’s Flipnote of jumping dolphins done in a retro, digital style reminiscent of 8 bit video games. Nice work!

★Finally, here’s a cute Flipnote by SayaSaya of a cat who tries to draw pictures in the sand, but the tide keeps erasing the drawings.

Thank you all for your excellent submissions from last week, and we’re looking forward to seeing your submissions for this week’s topic, “Memories of the Summer”.

Flipnotes from around the world

★ We really enjoyed this Flipnote created by combining photos taken with the Nintendo DSi Camera application and hand drawn animation by MdM (id:MdMbunny).

★ Our staff was also impressed with IanZero’s (id:IanZero) post to the “Practice” channel of a short loop animation of two characters fighting with swords.

★ Another Flipnote creator we really are fond of is Dr.Zoom (id:DrZoom), who made the amazing Flipnote “Paper Plane (Attack)” which features a paper plane flying through the sky, with a surprising finale.

Thank you all for your submissions this past week, and keep posting your Flipnotes -- the world is waiting and watching!
