Hello from the Hatena offices in Kyoto, Japan. This is Aaron with another issue of our weekly news blog. Thanks for stopping by to learn about the latest happenings at Flipnote Hatena.

We are still working on final touches for the international release of the Color Star Exchange, and hope to release it for all regions very soon. The Color Star Exchange will allow you to exchange Color Stars that you have for new themes for your Creator's Room. You can get Color Stars for free by doing various activities on Flipnote Hatena, and you can also purchase boxes of Color Stars from the Hatena Color Star Shop by credit card. We hope to make a formal announcement as soon as our testing and bug-checking is complete. Thanks for your patience as we get things ready, and we hope that you'll enjoy this new feature of Flipnote Hatena.

In other news, I was having a look on YouTube earlier today and discovered a great music video created with Flipnote Studio by a musician named Billy Polard.

It appears that this video was made by exporting a Flipnote from Flipnote Studio as an animated GIF file, which was then edited with some video editing software. Occasionally people ask us about how to make longer videos or sounds with Flipnote Studio, or how to output in high resolution. It's a little bit of work to do it properly, but it is possible to create long Flipnotes with Flipnote Studio though you'll need some hardware in addition to a Nintendo DSi.

For more of Billy Pollard's music and art please visit http://www.myspace.com/singingsirens

Flipnote Studio is similar is some ways to the toy video camera made by Fisher Price known as the PXL-2000. Released in 1987, the PXL-2000 was a low priced video camera that recorded images in black and white using audio cassette tapes, and allowed almost anyone of any age to make their own movies.

A feature film titled "Nadja" by Michael Almereyda was released in 1994 that included footage taken with the PXL-2000.

Flipnote Studio is similar to the PXL-2000 in that it allows anyone who has a Nintendo DSi to make their own animated films without requiring a lot of money or hardware. We're waiting to see who will be the first person to use animation made with Flipnote Studio to create a feature film -- it could be you!

Click here to check out some sample images made the PXL-2000.

Thanks from all of us on the Flipnote Hatena team, and we're looking forward to seeing your Flipnotes!
