Please introduce yourself.
I started drawing (not just scribbling) at age two, and I've never taken formal art lessons before. People may want to know how old I am, but I'm not telling. I draw much more than I should, and I don't listen to music very often. The character who appears in my Flipnotes, InkWolf, is based on my own appearance.
If I believed in luck I'd that say 13 is my lucky number because ironically, the 13th day of the month is typically a good day for me (not always, but most of the time). I like dry humor, and I consider my church as my second home.
How do get ideas for your Flipnotes?
Getting inspired is a pretty interesting thing for me, because I often get inspired from something and then come up with something completely different from what I'm being inspired from.
Some of the things that help me to create my ideas are:
- Seeing great work by other artists. My favorite artist is named Akiane, who is what some people call a "prodigy".
- I'm inspired by going to my local church.
- Listening to music inspires me (but whatever I make usually has nothing to do with the song I'm listening to).
- Seeing beautiful environments such as mountains, large gardens, lakes, rivers, canyons, and deserts inspires me.
- I'm also influenced through people I meet in person or through other communications like Hatena (but mostly in person).
What do you do in your free time?
More than anything I really enjoy all kinds of art, such as sketching, painting, sculpture, etc. I do like playing video games, but I don't play them very often. However, when I do play games I usually like to play them for a very long time. I also enjoy swimming, and I recently became a certified lifeguard. Eating and sleeping are big hobbies of mine too, and I also love being able to hang out with my family.
What kind of Flipnotes do you want/like to create?
Something I'd like to do is make a full length series using Flipnotes. I have a basic idea about a Flipnote series right now but it's very vague, and I might like to make it into a book or something else first.
What Nintendo DSi games have you played recently and which one is your all-time favorite?
I actually only have one non-downloaded game for my Nintendo DSi, called Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days which I really enjoy. I also like Art Academy First Semester, and I recommend it to any artists with a Nintendo DSi. Of course I also really like Flipnote Studio (can't you tell?!). I'd have to say my favorite video game of all time is The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Nintendo Wii with it's great art style, graphics, controls and story line.
Have you ever been to Japan? If you get a chance to visit there, what is the first thing or place you like to check out?
No, I haven't been to Japan. If I ever get the chance to go I think it will be fun to visit Tokyo Disneyland, see some of the large Japanese gardens, check out Mount Fuji, and walk across the Kintai Bridge in Iwakuni and swing by the museum near it. I'd also like to drop by and say hello to the crew at the Hatena offices.
