Happy New Year Flipnote Hatena! This is Aaron at Hatena's offices in Kyoto, Japan with the latest news about Flipnotes.

We hope that everyone had a safe and happy holiday, and it is great to be back here online with you all.

In Japan people traditionally send new years cards to each other which arrive on the morning of January 1. Since we cannot send cards to all of you, here is what Hatena's new years card for 2012 looks like:

2011 was the year of the rabbit in the Chinese zodiac, and 2012 is the year of the dragon. For this reason you will be seeing some rabbits and dragons in the Flipnotes this week. We hope that the year of the dragon brings happiness, prosperity and good fortune to all of you.

Along with the dragon Flipnotes that we have selected in the news, you can also see others in the 'Best of Hatena' channel at the URL below:

Try to make animations about stepping on bubble gum, gluing things together, playing with sticky toys or chewing sticky candy. You are welcome to post anything you want as long as it is sticky. Lets all stick our ideas together and make nice Flipnotes for the weekly topic!

Please submit your weekly topic Flipnotes by midnight on January 12, 2011 (Thursday) US Pacific Time, and we will feature some of our favorites on January 13, 2012 (Friday).
