Welcome to the Hatena Featured Artist section of our blog, where we introduce Flipnote creators from around the world.
We post the Hatena Featured Artist every week on Wednesday, and hope to introduce a variety of different artists that will inspire and entertain you.
Be sure to check here every week to see some of the most amazing artists on Flipnote Hatena. Maybe we'll even feature you someday!
Today's Hatena Featured Artist is Onarabuta (id:nonsan2) from Japan.
Please tell us about yourself.
Hello, my name is Onarabuta. I am a student who loves to draw and adores cats. I enjoy both making and watching Flipnotes. I never imagined myself to be featured by Hatena, so I am quite surprised and really glad.
What are your interests or hobbies, and how do you spend your free time?
I like spending my free time relaxing at home, watching movies and TV shows, or just doing nothing. I also like cleaning the house. It may sound weird, but I actually do enjoy it.
Please introduce some of your best Flipnotes, and tell us why you like them.
★ I drew two bunnies playing instruments and dancing in a joyful way. I tried to make it cute by working hard on their facial expressions and movement.
★ This is something that happens between me (the bunny) and my little mischevous brother (the pig). I remember struggling with drawing the juice spilling out. I think it is a funny Flipnote.
★ I thought of making this Flipnote when I was reading a book that made me feel sleepy. I made a loop out of it because I wanted to express the strugle between trying to read the book and getting sleepy.
★ "Wriggle Dance" - This is my most animated Flipnote. I am not really good with smooth movements, so this is a kind of unusual Flipnote for me to make. I like the cute dance of the bunny.
★ I watched my cat very carefully while making this Flipnote to make it more realistic. It took me a lot of effort to draw the round, fuzzy line.
★ I wanted to draw a happy rabbit eating a Christmas cake. The rabbit fell asleep after feeling satisfied with the cake, and Santa Claus left him a present. I enjoyed drawing this Flipnote because I love the Christmas season.
What techniques or skills are you especially good at in your Flipnotes?
I think I am good at cute and fuzzy drawings. I try to make Flipnotes that anyone can think of as cute.
What are some techniques or skills that you wish to improve?
My weak point is drawing neat and smooth movements. I start out drawing precisely, but often I get lazy so it becomes rough in the end. I want to practice animating movement and improve my work.
Please introduce some of your favorite Flipnote artists
When I first saw his Flipnotes, I was stunned because they are so funny. I always check his latest Flipnotes.
Shimako's drawings are really good, I wish I could draw like her.
Isoflavone is also really good at drawing, and animates very well. I admire his work a lot.
★ SyncoteenHikari (id:TransMetalsGP)
Syncoteen Hikari's work is very unique, and I really think he is a great artist.
Youhei has a lot of Flipnotes, it amazes me how he gets all of these ideas!
Is there something you would like to say to the Flipnote Hatena community?
Flipnotes are something everyone can enjoy if you like drawing. It does not matter if you are good or not, what is more important is to draw what you like, and be happy with it. I will continue making Flipnotes and hope you enjoy my work.
