Welcome to the Hatena Featured Artist section of our blog, where we introduce Flipnote creators from around the world.

We post the Hatena Featured Artist every week on Wednesday, and hope to introduce a variety of different artists that will inspire and entertain you.

Be sure to check here every week to see some of the most amazing artists on Flipnote Hatena. Maybe we'll even feature you someday!

Today's Hatena Featured Artist is neomanga (id:mgneos) from the Americas Region.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

Hello! My name is Stacey, but most people call me Neo. I live in the United States and I am 22 years old. I am currently searching for a college that specializes in animation, computer arts and gaming.

What are your interests or hobbies, and how do you spend your free time?

My main hobby is drawing, but I also like to use clay and make other types of art. I study animations and video games to see how they are created. I also like to play video games.

Please introduce some of your best Flipnotes, and tell us why you like them.

★ This is the second Flipnote I made. It was originally just going to be the character walking off, but I decided to add to the "skeleton" that got left behind.

★ This Flipnote was inspired by a scene in an old silent movie. It was difficult making this loop, because Flipnote Studio has only two layers.

★ This was my first Flipnote to be featured in the Flipnote Hatena Weekly News. I could have done better on the animation, but I was short on time to finish this by the deadline on Thursday.

★ This is another Flipnote that made it into the Hatena Weekly News. I love thinking that there could be life other than human beings in space.

★ This Flipnote is about artist's block, and ironically I got more inspiration after posting it.

What techniques or skills are you especially good at in your Flipnotes?

I try to accurately time my Flipnotes to the sounds I use. However, I don't always do that if I am working without sound, or if I don't have enough time.

What are some techniques or skills that you wish to improve, try, or learn to do in order make your Flipnotes better?

I would like to improve the way I use angles. Before I started making Flipnotes, I only drew still images which have only one angle. I would like to incorporate more angles in my animations.

Please introduce some of your favorite artists on Flipnote Hatena and tell us why you like them or their Flipnotes.

There are many wonderful artists on Flipnote Hatena, but these are a few of the artists I like best:

★ I adore the way InkWolf (id:InkWolf) animates, and have been a fan since I saw his "Smile for Japan" Flipnote.

Nicholas (id:nicholighkun) makes very smooth animation sequences.

。JETSU (id:Zul) creates very cute characters.

Is there something you would like to say to the Flipnote Hatena community?

I would like to say that you should work hard to create your own ideas and animations. Even if you aren't a good illustrator or animator, making original work gives you experience to improve your style and the look of your characters. Using someone else's hard work and passing it off as your own is wrong, and does nothing to help you in the long run. Use the work of others as inspiration to help you improve and to create your own ideas.
