Welcome to the Hatena Featured Artist section of our blog, where we introduce Flipnote creators from around the world.
We post the Hatena Featured Artist every week on Wednesday, and hope to introduce a variety of different artists that will inspire and entertain you.
Be sure to check here every week to see some of the most amazing artists on Flipnote Hatena. Maybe we'll even feature you someday!
Today's Hatena Featured Artist is Mick58 (id:mickinderby) from the Europe and Oceania region.
Please tell us a little about yourself.
I'm a 58 year old adult animator from the UK. I share my home with my lovely wife, son, and a cat who thinks she is a squirrel. I am now retired because of ill health, so I spend a lot of time on Hatena and I'm amazed at the vast amount of great creators on here!
What are your interests or hobbies, and how do you spend your free time?
I mostly surf the web on my laptop and make Flipnotes. I love to sit out in my garden when the weather here in England allows it!
Please introduce some of your best Flipnotes, and tell us why you like them.
★ "Block Flowers" - I posted this for the Weekly Topic: Flowers, as my first try at a picture made with blocks. I think it turned out very well.
★ "Tiny Blocks" - I tried something a bit more challenging here by using smaller blocks. This was not good for my eyes though!
★ "My 1st Ever Flip" - This was my first ever Flipnote, and shows there is hope for us all!
★ "Block Flips" - I thought other creators might like to try to create block animations, so I made this tutorial which contains the basics to help you get started. Have fun!
★ "Micro Dot 3 Sizes" - I'm really pleased with this because I used the smallest blocks possible. This is one of my latest Flipnotes, and uses three different sizes of blocks.
★ "Negative Blocks" - In this Flipnote I reversed my animation process by removing the 'moving' blocks, and leaving the rest in place. I really like the result.
What techniques or skills are you especially good at in your Flipnotes?
I am not a very good animator, so block animations are a good way for me to create the illusion of movement. I can get lost in doing them for hours!
What are some techniques or skills that you wish to improve, try, or learn to do in order make your Flipnotes better?
I would like to improve my animation skills, but for now I am quite happy to continue at what I am doing. I am always finding faster ways to work, and learning new skills all the time.
Please introduce some of your favorite artists on Flipnote Hatena and tell us why you like them or their Flipnotes.
