Welcome to the Hatena Featured Artist section of our blog, where we introduce Flipnote creators from around the world.

We post the Hatena Featured Artist every week on Wednesday, and hope to introduce a variety of different artists that will inspire and entertain you.

Be sure to check here every week to see some of the most amazing artists on Flipnote Hatena. Maybe we'll even feature you someday!

Today's Hatena Featured Artist is sho. (id:showest) from Japan.

Please tell us about yourself

Hello everyone, my name is Sho. I live in Kyoto, Japan and I've been creating Flipnotes since April, 2010.

What are your interests or hobbies, and how do you spend your free time?

I like spending time indoors reading books about design and traveling. Of course I also enjoy playing online games and creating Flipnotes too. I sometimes play online games together with other Hatena users, and it's quite fun.

Please introduce some of your best Flipnotes, and tell us why you like them.

★ "Satsuma Kiriko"

This took me a lot of time and effort because I had to color-in every dot, one by one. I like this Flipnote because I think it shows the clarity of Satsuma Kiriko style cut glass.

★ "Charamela"

This is the first Flipnote I made where I played the ukulele in the background. The tune is the music that ramen noodle delivery carts play. The song reminds me a ramen deliveryman that used to come by my house when I was a child. I remember that it made really horrible sounds.

What techniques or skills are you especially good at in your Flipnotes?

I think I am good at creating my own music, and making Flipnotes that playback well in loop mode.

What are some techniques or skills that you wish to improve, try, or learn to do in order to make your Flipnotes better?

I'm really bad at drawing the human body, and animating people smoothly. I believe I'll only get better by practicing, so I am going to keep drawing more until I get it right.

Please introduce us your favorite Flipnote Hatena artists

Izumi (id:izumi-v) and Syncoteen (id:TransMetalsGP) have been an inspiration to me since I started Hatena. I have many favorite artists, and I cannot name them all, but every one of them are really good, and I'm proud to be a part of this online community.

★ "Stylish Food" by Izumi (id:izumi-v)

★ "Transforming Toilet" by Syncoteen (id:TransMetalsGP)

Is there something you would like to say to the Flipnote Hatena community?

Hatena is a great service where you can meet amazing artists and view their Flipnotes. Many people believe that the only good Flipnotes are on the top page, but I think many good Flipnotes/artists can be found at random. I hope we can all continue to enjoy creating and sharing our Flipnotes for a long time.

Some of Hatena's favorite Flipnotes by this creator

★ "Venezia" - This pixel art Flipnote has extremely nice detail and color, and has been featured previously in the Flipnote Hatena Weekly news.

★ "Making Crepes" - The realism and attention to detail in this Flipnote actually made us feel hungry.

★ "Why…?" - This Flipnote skillfully depicts the feeling of loneliness.

★ "I Wasn't Asking You to Come Over Here!" - We really enjoyed the smooth animation and funny story about a boy getting into trouble with a pair of sea creatures.
