February 1, 2012: Hatena Featured Artist - Gurantokuroru (id:gorirago)

Welcome to the Hatena Featured Artist section of our blog, where we introduce Flipnote creators from around the world.

We post the Hatena Featured Artist every week on Wednesday, and hope to introduce a variety of different artists that will inspire and entertain you.

Be sure to check here every week to see some of the most amazing artists on Flipnote Hatena. Maybe we'll even feature you someday!

Today's Hatena Featured Artist is Gurantokuroru (id:gorirago) from Japan.

Please tell us about yourself.

Hello! Nice to be here. I am from the planet earth, and call myself Gurantokuroru.

What are your interests or hobbies, and how do you spend your free time?

I like to make miniature four wheel-drive cars. I enjoy polishing, cleaning and painting the car bodies until they look good, so my hands get dirty with paint often.

A short while ago I had my first test run with one of my miniature cars. It crashed on the second corner. I guess I need to work more on how the cars drive.

Please introduce some of your best Flipnotes, and tell us why you like them.

★ I made this loop Flipnote for a contest. I tried to draw this in a way that the dragon would appear differently when you watch it over and over. I hope you enjoy the change in your perception.

★ I was working on this one just after the second version of Flipnote Studio was released in Japan (Editor's note: There was an older version of Flipnote Studio in Japan, and version two was released on April 27, 2009). With the first version it was taking me forever to finish it. After I switched to the newer version it became so much easier thanks to the two layers.

★ I made a similar but shorter version of this with an electric fan. Someone asked me for a version with an air conditioner. I also wanted to try and make the Flipnote longer, so this is how it turned out. It took me a while to make and by the time I posted it summer was almost over.

★ The way the moon rotates around the earth makes me think of atoms, so I made this thought into a Flipnote.

★ I was making this Flipnote for the Weekly Topic: Wild. But I forgot the deadline and did not post it in time.

★ This one was for the Weekly Topic: Sweets. I made the deadline this time. I tried to draw a battle between sweets. I made it colorful and cute, but not too sweet.

What techniques or skills are you especially good at in your Flipnotes?

I do not think there is something I am specifically good at, but I like to make things move. I try to make everything move, even if it looks weird. I also like to add twists. I try to trick the viewer and make them think. These are the kinds of Flipnotes I enjoy most.

What are some techniques or skills that you wish to improve?

I find it difficult to draw effects. I find it almost impossible to draw things such as flames and waves. I am also not good at sounds. When I try to make my own music, I just give up in the middle. Lastly I wish I can work faster so I can finish my Flipnotes on time for the weekly topic.

Please introduce us your favorite artists!

I enjoy watching Flipnotes by artists who are skilled at something that I am not good at. I enjoy Flipnotes with good music, stories, humor, composition or color. I think these kinds of Flipnotes are really amazing. I watch them and learn.

Is there something you would like to say to the Flipnote Hatena community?

Even if your drawings are a bit rough you can still be featured in the Flipnote Hatena Weekly News, but if you do not draw you will get nowhere. You have to practice and find your way to a place where you can express yourself well. Try your best and you never know what you may come up with!
